Call for Paper or Panel Proposals (CLOSED)
Democratization, Regionalization and Globalization in Southeast Asia
AYSEA (pronounced “Asia”) is a venue for young scholars from the Consortium member institutions to share research insights, seek common voices, and examine regional traditions of Southeast Asian studies in Asia. The rationale of AYSEA is to foster truly interdisciplinary dialogues among young scholars and to pursue research excellence by promoting international publications. The conference is a biennial event held every two years in the gap year between the SEASIA Conferences. The aim of AYSEA 2016 is to explore new frontiers of Southeast Asia studies in Asia by underlining the cultural, social, economic, and political development of the region under the simultaneous impetuses of localization, regionalization and globalization.
AYSEA 2016 will highlight four sub-themes as stated below:
1. Local politics and democratic retreat or consolidation in Southeast Asia;
2. Between globalization and localization: the making of Southeast Asia;
3. Transnationalizing Southeast Asia: social actors, statecrafts, and regional institutions;
4. New frontiers and cutting-edge issues in Southeast Asian studies.
November 9-12, 2016.
