The SEASIA consortium is co-organizing an international workshop entitled “Transition from the Margins: Resource Peripheries and Decarbonisation in the Asia-Pacific” on December 12-13, 2024 at the Center for Southeast Asian Studies, Kyoto University.
The workshop will examine the ways in which countries in the Asia Pacific are responding to the decarbonisation challenge. Topics of discussion will include the phase-out of fossil fuels, the role of state interventions in renewable energy, competition for critical minerals, and the implications of land/water use changes in rural and coastal peripheries. Papers from the workshop will be published in an edited volume, contributing to the growing body of scholarship that seeks to understand the evolving role of the resource periphery in the global energy transition.
Members of the SEASIA Consortium, Dr. Julie de los Reyes of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies – Kyoto University, Dr. Galuh Syahbana Indraprahasta of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) – Indonesia, and Dr. Naomi Clara Hanakata of the Asia Research Institute – National University of Singapore will be participating in the workshop and contributing to the book project.
