SEASIA is very pleased to welcome the College of Interdisciplinary Studies (CISTU) of Thammasat University, Thailand, and the Department of Southeast Asian Studies (DSEAS) of the University of Malaya, Malaysia, as new members of the consortium in 2024.
Founded in 2009, CISTU actively promotes interdisciplinary education and research as well as social services. Two of its multidisciplinary degree programs—Interdisciplinary Studies and Philosophy, Politics and Economics—offer a wide variety of courses in Southeast Asian Studies. Many of its faculty members have conducted research on topics and themes related to Southeast Asian studies.
Established in 1975, the DSEAS is the first ASEAN institution, and the only university department in Malaysia, to offer an inter-disciplinary BA program in Southeast Asian Studies (which includes training in four major Southeast Asian languages, namely, Thai, Filipino, Vietnamese, Burmese) and an MA Program. A founding member of the Southeast Asian Studies Regional Exchange Program (SEASREP) and a member of the Association for Southeast Asian Studies in the United Kingdom (ASEASUK), DSEAS boasts a roster of distinguished alumni.
Both institutions have built up excellent international reputations by organizing academic activities (including international conferences) and establishing partnerships with local and international institutions in East and Southeast Asia and the world.
The new members are slated to attend the General Meeting and Biennial Conference of the consortium on July 17-20, 2024 in Manila, The Philippines.
